JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF POSITION: ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER

 

GENERAL NATURE OF THE POSITION:

This position involves the operation of the Town of Taycheedah Public Works Department. The employee will perform all duties required to maintain Town equipment and properties, which will include, but not be limited to:
• Roads and road right-of-ways
• Town Hall and salt shed
• Kiekhaefer Park
• Trucks, tractor, grader
• All miscellaneous power equipment
This position will report directly to the Town Chairman/Town Board.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform maintenance and cleaning of Town roads and Town property. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Snow plowing
• Patching of roads
• Roadbase construction inspection
• Sign installation and maintenance
• Grass mowing on Town roads and other Town-owned properties
• Weed control
• Street cleaning
• Tree trimming and removal
• Maintenance of Kiekhaefer Park
• Keep all Town equipment clean and in safe and good operating condition
• Operate trucks and equipment owned by the Town
• Keep roads clear of snow and apply salt/sand as required
• Keep Town Garage clean and orderly
• Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on all Town equipment
• Perform all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards
• Maintain bridges, culverts, and ditches
• Perform shouldering work
• Operate a chain saw and gas-powered weed-cutter
• Work with outside contractors, if required
• Keep written records of equipment maintenance and cost records
• Keep written records of time spent on all work performed and associated cost
• Assist with hiring, training and supervise part-time maintenance employees
• Assist with departmental budget preparation
• Assist with annual and bi-annual road condition reporting requirements
• Be available to work a minimum of forty (40) hours a week and all hours, day or night, if emergencies should occur
• Installation of election booths prior to elections

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:

• Good knowledge of roadwork processes and equipment
• Good knowledge of maintenance and repair of equipment, including repair to gasoline and diesel-powered equipment
• Ability to follow simple written and oral direction
• Thoroughness
• Dependability
• Good physical condition

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• Completion of a standard high school course
• Some experience in road and equipment work
• Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator license issued by the State of Wisconsin and a current CDL license

Note: Municipal heavy equipment operators are subject to alcohol and drug testing.
